Buy This House And Get A Free Jaguar Convertible

free jaguar house

While it might be the most expensive Jaguar F-Type ever, this deal from Surface Developments also includes a shiny designer home on Melrose.

That's Melrose Avenue in Ottawa, Canada, not the Melrose Place in California (or your sweat-soaked college flashbacks).

The house itself is stunning, a perfect match for the design-first Jaguar F-Type. There's even a close match between the F-Type's curb weight and the house's 3,623-square-foot space.

Surface Developments doesn't list the home's price on its site, but if you have to ask, well, you know the drill.

The offer of a free F-Type with purchase of the home is a limited-time deal (though it's not clear how limited), so if you're interested in some swanky Canadian digs with a ride to match, you'd better act quickly.

To celebrate the deal, you could buy the world's most expensive vodka, and get the world's most tasteless SUV for free, too. Just be sure to park it around back.

Insane Video Of A Jaguar Attacking A Crocodile

In August, National Geographic caught incredible footage of a large male jaguar stalking and lunging onto the back of a caiman — a cousin of the crocodile native to South America — as it was hanging out on the shore along Brazil's Tres Irmãos River.

"With one bite, the big cat likely delivered an immediate blow to the caiman's central nervous system, leaving the animal unable to fight or flee," conservation scientist Luke Dollar told National Geographic.

The video starts out with the jaguar, which they named Mick Jaguar, searching for food. Of the big cats, jaguars are pretty good swimmers, and anything along the water's edge is fair game, according to Dollar.

In real-life, the entire stalking process goes on for about 40 minutes. In the video, things get real around the 1:30-mark.

Jay Leno Perfectly Explains Why Jaguar's New Sports Car Is So Good

When he's not filming "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," the late night host spends much of his time with his famed car collection, and producing videos for "Jay Leno's Garage."

In the latest episode of the internet series, Leno reviews the new Jaguar F-Type convertible, the successor to the legendary E-Type.

The F-Type has been on the road for a few months now, and it's been thoroughly reviewed. But Leno came up with a point we had not heard before: "It's like a Mustang that went to college at Oxford."

The loud exhaust and powerful V8 engine recall the muscle cars of the 1960s, while the excellent handling and English heritage give it a refined feel. It's an excellent summary of why we liked the new topless Jag so much.

Overall, Leno's verdict is very positive. The F-Type is a "real sports car," he says. "Very well done."

The actual drive of the F-Type starts about 15 minutes in. Watch:

Jaguar's About To Reveal A Coupe Version Of Its Fantastic New Convertible

Jaguar will reveal a coupe version of its F-Type convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, it announced today.

The automaker is keeping the lid tight on performance specs, and it has published just one photo of the coupe, which will go on sale next spring. The convertible, Jaguar's first sports car since it ended production of the legendary E-Type in the mid-1970s, hit the market this summer.

We loved the F-Type convertible (so did Jay Leno), so we're excited to see another version of the sports car.

The coupe will be revealed in all its glory on November 20 at 7 p.m. Pacific time. The event will be broadcast live; you can watch here.

Here's the one image we have of the F-Type Coupe:

Here's A Taste Of What Jaguar's First Ever Super Bowl Campaign Will Look Like

$

0

The luxury car manufacturer Jaguar announced today it intends to extend the momentum of a recent sales spike by airing a commercial at this year's Super Bowl. It will be the British brand's first ever appearance at America's biggest sporting event.

The campaign will play up both Jaguar's suave British heritage and its status as a challenger to incumbent luxury brands like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in support of its new F-Type Coupe, which will debut at auto shows later this month.

In a 30-second ad Jaguar will begin airing during NFL games starting this weekend, the company teases its upcoming Super Bowl campaign by having a traditional car commercial cut out to a black screen with a blurred face, who asks whether the audience has noticed that the best Hollywood villains are always British.

The teaser spot flashes quick, blurry shots of a football and the Union Jack to hint at the upcoming Super Bowl debut and introduces the hashtag #GoodToBeBad, which will be used to position Jaguar as a rebellious, sophisticated outsider attacking the status quo.

Jaguar said the campaign will also include several well-known British actors, but has remained hush on the specific talent it will use, save for the director Tom Hooper of "The King's Speech" fame.

Though some brands, including Subway and Century 21, have flinched at the $4 million price tag for a 30-second spot in this year's game,  Jaguar sees its campaign as a worthwhile investment in continuing its penetration of the U.S. market. Jaguar says it has increased U.S. sales by 36% year-to-date through October, the highest such growth rate of any auto maker.

“The Super Bowl is a perfect advertising platform for Jaguar given our new products, fast growing sales in the U.S., and the renewed interest in British cultural icons,” Jeff Curry, Jaguar North America's brand vice president, said in a statement. “The campaign signals that the F-TYPE Coupe is the new British bad boy in the segment and is designed to disrupt the tradition-bound sports car market. We look forward to bringing the best of British film to the Super Bowl viewing audience with renowned actors and Academy Award-winner director Tom Hooper.”

Jaguar F-Type Coupe LA Auto Show reveal

It's auto show week in Los Angeles, and car manufacturers are climbing over one another to grab a share of the spotlight as more than 50 vehicles debut.

Rather than just spill its story online a few days early or get lost in the wave of press conferences, Jaguar beat the game by throwing a big party to introduce the world to its latest creation, the F-Type Coupe.

At Raleigh Studios in Playa Vista, media, customers, and celebrities got their first good look at the car.

And it only takes one look to know this is a beauty.

One of the oddities about Jaguar's F-Type convertible, which hit the market earlier this year, is that it looked just as good with the top up and it did with it down. So it's no surprise now that the coupe version is also gorgeous.

And like the convertible, which we loved driving, the coupe will be fast. The top of the line R version will have a 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine that will send it from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat, and up to a top speed of 186 mph.

U.S. pricing hasn't been announced, but the basic F-Type Coupe will start for £51,325 ($83,000) in the U.K. The R Coupe will cost £85,000 ($137,450).

Jaguar designer Ian Callum introduced the F-Type Coupe. We like it in orange:

2013 Jaguar XFR-S bear mountain

A year ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar introduced a car that was unlike anything we were expecting. We know and love Jaguar for sleek, low cars that exude sex appeal.

Then we saw the XFR-S.

Compared to its siblings, it's rather stubby, and it's got a big wing stuck on the back of it. But a peek under the hood reveals that the XFR-S isn't an abomination, it's just something new. Something very powerful, and very fast.

Over the weekend, we had the chance to spend a few days with the 550-horsepower, four-door, five-seat sedan. We took it out of Manhattan, up to Bear Mountain, where the roads all curve and the engine can do its thing.

That's where it all clicked. The XFR-S is no joy to look at. But it's a terrific performance car.

The XFR-S starts for $99,000. The version we tested cost $105,770.

Let's start with a quick look back at Jaguar's past. The brand makes fantastically sleek cars, like the iconic E-Type.

And the 2013 XF sedan.

The newly debuted F-Type Coupe is just drop-dead gorgeous.

Jaguar's Response To A Great Mercedes Commercial Involves Killing A Chicken

In September, Mercedes-Benz scored a YouTube hit with a commercial in which chickens, held up by people, dance while their heads remain still.

It was a great way to promote the automaker's "Magic Body Control" technology. The car scans the road surface ahead and adjusts the suspension to keep the occupants' ride level stable — the body moves, the head doesn't.

Prompted by the success of the Mercedes ad, Jaguar Land Rover has responded with a parody version: A man makes a chicken dance, saying "See, it's just like a Mercedes." Then the chicken is promptly eaten by a Jaguar.

Text appears: "Magic Body Control? We prefer cat-like reflexes."

In an email, a Jaguar rep gave credit to the creative team at Mercedes, and describes its own video as "an alternate, Jaguar, point of view."

Here's the Jaguar version:

Ben Kingsley Stars In A New Teaser For Jaguar's Villainous Super Bowl Ad

Ben Kingsley in Jaguar Super Bowl ad teaser

The British car manufacturer Jaguar's first ever Super Bowl ad will feature U.K. actor Ben Kingsley, according to a new teaser video released Saturday.

Jaguar's campaign leading up to the Super Bowl has focused on promoting the brand as a sophisticated British villain invading the U.S. luxury vehicle market to challenge mainstays like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.

The new teaser shows Kingsley, who has played bad guys like Sweeney Todd and Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, standing in a shadowy, luxury command center. Looking out on a meeting at an airport runway, a sharply dressed Kingsley notices "All the usual suspects."

"Oh, and one new one," he adds as a white Jaguar F-Type coupe zooms across the runway.

In addition to the teaser video, Jaguar created a microsite at BritishVillains.com where visitors can watch the teaser, learn more about the F-Type, and customize a vehicle of their own. The site prominently features a Kingsley headshot above the tagline, "It's Good To Be Bad."

Jaguar announced in November make its first Super Bowl appearance with a spot from "The King's Speech" director Tom Hooper, with the brand hoping to build momentum on the 36% year-to-date sales increase it enjoyed during the first three quarters of 2013.

At the time, it released a 30-second TV commercial that featured a blurred face, the Union Jack, and a football, and asked viewers if they'd noticed that all the best villains are British.

The campaign is being run by Jaguar's creative agency, Spark 44, and its media agency, Mindshare. It has also included a digital promotion aspect through a partnership between Jaguar and Gawker Media's content studio. Gawker created a separate blog, called Good To Be Bad, that features sponsored content from Jaguar, original work from Gawker's content studio, and posts shared from Gawker editorial blogs like Gizmodo and Lifehacker.

The posts focus on general villainy, with titles like "A Guide to World Domination in 2014" and "Four Devious Female Archetypes in Film (And How To Act Like Them)."

The Super Bowl will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium. With an average price of $4 million for a 30-second commercial, ads at this year's game are the most expensive in Super Bowl history.

Here's Jaguar's Cinematic Super Bowl Ad Explaining Why All The Best Movie Villains Are British

Jaguar super bowl ad shot of Tom Hiddleston

Jaguar's Super Bowl ad uses a trio of British actors and the cinematography of director Tom Hooper to delve into why all of the best movie villains come from across the pond.

In the 60-second ad, actors Sir Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Strong speak to the camera and posit that Brits make the best bad guys because "we're more focused,""we have a certain style," and "maybe we just sound right."

Along the way, the men use a fancy helicopter and two swerving Jaguar F-Type Coupes to meet at a high-tech command center in London. "Oh yes," Kingsley remarks at the end of the ad. "It's good to be bad."

The commercial features an ominous original soundtrack that was composed and conducted by Alexandre Desplat, who worked with Hooper on "The King's Speech," and recorded by The London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road.

The "Good To Be Bad" campaign is being run by Jaguar's creative agency, Spark 44, and its media agency, Mindshare, which hope to cast the brand as an edgy British outsider challenging mainstays like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. luxury market.

The campaign has also included a digital promotion aspect through a partnership between Jaguar and Gawker Media's content studio. Gawker created a separate blog, called Good To Be Bad, that features sponsored content from Jaguar, original work from Gawker's content studio, and posts shared from Gawker editorial blogs like Gizmodo and Lifehacker.

The New Corvette Is Just As Good And Half As Expensive As Cars From Porsche, Jaguar, And Audi

corvette jaguar f-type porsche 911 audi r8

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has received rave reviews since it hit the road last year. We called it the most fun car we've ever driven— partly because with an MSRP of just $51,000, it's surprisingly affordable.

To see how the new American stacks up against the best of Europe, the UK's Autocar magazine pitted it against three stupendous vehicles: the Porsche 911 Carrera S ($98,900), Jaguar F-Type V8 ($92,000), and Audi R8 V8 ($114,900). Then it put the whole thing on video.

The Stingray more than held its own. In an acceleration test, it whipped the 911, seven times out of seven. The 911 took first place in braking power, however. Facing off against the F-Type in engine sound, it fought its way to a "highly scored draw."

Same for the handling competition against the R8. Autocar notes that while Audi's car is a "touch more agile," it's not as fun to drive as the Stingray.

Here's Autocar's conclusion:

"The new Corvette Stingray can hold its head up very high indeed against Europe's best, no question. It sounds great, it goes better than any of them, it looks good, it stops well, and it's an absolute peach of a car to drive at the limit."

The fact that it's a "complete bargain" makes it all the better. Watch:

We Wish Jaguar Would Bring Its Gorgeous New Station Wagon To The States

Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake

A few months ago, I spent some time with the XFR-S, the mouth-breathing black sheep of the Jaguar family that makes up for its chunky profile with terrific performance.

Now Jaguar has followed up with the XFR-S Sportbrake, the station wagon (they say "estate") version of the car.

But Jaguar isn't bringing the wagon to the U.S. So I'm packing my bags for England.

That's because Jaguar promises even bigger performance in the Sportbrake than the sedan XFR-S, plus enough trunk space to let you live in the thing without throwing out any major possessions.

So here's hoping my tax refund will cover a one-way flight to London and the £82,495 ($138,000) price tag.

The XFR-S Sportbrake will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, along with the rest of the 2015 XF range.

This is Jaguar's third R-S branded performance car, and the first station wagon (they prefer the term estate car).

Jag retuned the chassis of the XFR-S sedan to account for the extra weight at the rear of the car.

This Hunk Of Metal Is Jaguar's Solution To Federal Fuel Economy Standards

Jaguar XE

The new XE sedan Jaguar Land Rover announced at the Geneva Motor Show today may not seem remarkable, but it's crucial to the brand's future in the American market.

Automakers who sell cars in the U.S. are subject to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, which require their cars to average out to certain levels of efficiency.

That's easier for big companies: GM can prioritize performance in the new Corvette and balance that out by focusing on fuel consumption in its low-end vehicles.

But Jaguar Land Rover makes only high-end cars, and doesn't have the luxury to compromise on any of them.

In a January interview at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, we asked Group Sales Operations Director Andy Goss how the company plans to hit the CAFE standards while keeping its products top of the line.

"We know where we need to get to," he said. "We'll not rule anything out." Hybrids and electrics are in consideration, and Jaguar recently announced a new engine manufacturing center will a new family of low emission four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.

But it's "not just a question of powertrain," Goss said. "We're very expert in aluminum."

Enter the Jaguar XE.

The compact sedan, set to roll out in 2015, will be built on an aluminum — instead of the standard steel — monocoque body, the first in its class, according to Jaguar.

That will make it lighter, so a smaller engine can yield the terrific performance expected by Jaguar customers. It will help in Europe as well, which has its own strict fuel economy rules.

Problem (partly) solved.

Here's the aluminum monocoque:

Jaguar Has Hired David Beckham To Sell Cars In China

Jaguar has recruited international soccer star David Beckham to help peddle its wares in China. He will serve as the face of the brand in a new marketing campaign that will initially feature the new F-Type Coupe.

Jaguar is keen to promote its British-ness while also coming across as the brand of choice for buyers that are not only athletically-minded by also style-focused and cool. Beckham easily meets all these criteria, and he also happens to be a huge car nut.

Just some of the cars he’s owned include a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, aPorsche 911 Turbo, a Cadillac Escalade, and even a Chevy Camaro that he hadpainted matte gray. Nowadays, though, he’s likely to be seen rolling around in various Jaguars.

Jaguar says the campaign will run for several years, and that beyond the F-Type Coupe the ads will include the XJ flagship sedan. We’ll also almost certainly seeJaguar’s upcoming XE small sedan featured too.

“I’ve always been an admirer of Jaguar--from the styling and design to the feel and roar of the engine, every element feels uniquely British,” Beckham said in a statement. “It’s an honor to support a brand with such an amazing heritage and I look forward to being part of Jaguar’s exciting future in China.”

It’s not uncommon for major auto brands to recruit celebrities for their advertising campaigns. In fact, Beckham’s own wife Victoria helped promote the launch of the Range Rover Evoque from Jaguar’s sister company Land Rover. Then there wasGeorge Clooney who served as the face of Mercedes-Benz in China previously, andJustin Timberlake who helped market Audi cars in the past.

How One Man's Simple Vision Produced Some Of The Most Beautiful Cars Ever Made

$

ian callum

If you don’t spend your days thumbing through car magazines and religiously watching reruns of “Top Gear,” the name Ian Callum probably won’t ring a bell.

But if you have even a passing interest in cars, you’ll recognize his work. There’s the Aston Martin Vanquish that starred in the 2002 James Bond flick “Die Another Day” (and turned invisible in the movie).

There's also the DB7, which became one of the most popular Astons. Cult classics like the Ford Escort Cosworth and the Nissan R390 are part of Callum's oeuvre.

More recently, Callum has helped along the resurgence of Jaguar with a wave of beautiful sedans and the F-Type, the brand’s first true sports car since the legendary E-Type passed away in the 1970s.

Even the industry's harshest critics have found a soft spot for Callum's work. "I'm not saying the Aston Martin DB7 looks good for a car. For me, this is the most beautiful thing ever made by man,"gushed Jeremy Clarkson, the curmudgeonly host of the BBC’s “Top Gear.”

Callum has built a 35-year career around his seemingly effortless ability to bring simple and elegant designs to life. His work has staying power: More than two decades after the DB7's debut, the car's design DNA can be seen in Aston Martin's current product line.

The Dumfries, Scotland, native started his design career with Ford in 1979 after graduating with a master's in vehicle design from the Royal College of Art in London. For the next decade, Callum climbed Ford's corporate ladder, ascending to the position of design manager at the company’s Italian Ghia studio.

He left Ford in 1990 to join engineering consultancy TWR Designs as its general manager and chief designer. There, Callum worked on some of his most glamorous projects for clients like Aston Martin, Nissan, and Range Rover.

But his greatest achievement may be the turnaround he helped engineer at Jaguar after being appointed its director of design in 1999.ian callum jaguar f-type In the late '90s, the luxury carmaker was mired in an overly nostalgic design rut with such a heavy emphasis on retro-themed designs that it struggled to find a way forward. Callum immediately installed a new styling philosophy.

"There isn't a specific visual cue that makes a Jaguar," Callum told Business Insider. "If you look back at the history of the Jaguar, it’s an ever-changing [design] profile on the cars."

Jaguar cast off its rigid design theme for what Callum calls "a set of values" that allows for new styles while maintaining basic principles. These values include simple yet beautiful lines, a striking grill and headlight design used across the Jaguar lineup, and, most important, an eye-catching profile that would make any passersby look twice.pierce brosnan aston martin vanquishWithin the auto industry, Callum’s work is well recognized, earning him awards from Auto Express, Top Gear magazine, and the British Royal Society of Arts.

But Callum himself is mostly unknown, even to many Jaguar and Aston Martin owners. Though he feels that car designers deserve more recognition and social standing in the artistic world, he is content with his level of anonymity.

"I have two pleasures in designing a car," Callum said. "One is the creation of the design itself, when you take a look back and enjoy the design with your team, and two is when the public gets a kick out of the design."

Fortunately for Callum and Jaguar, that public reaction has translated into business success. Jaguar sales jumped 19% in the first quarter of 2014, and the F-Type convertible and coupe have been piling up rave reviews.

And there's no reason Jaguar's new philosophy won't keep producing hits. "That can take us anywhere as we move forward — we can change the details,” Callum said. “As long as the values of beauty, simplicity, and a sense of visual power remain, then it'll be a Jaguar."

Jay Leno Raced A Million-Dollar Jaguar Across Italy This Weekend

Jag_Leno Ian Callum Mille Miglia Jaguar

Former "Tonight Show" host and world-renowned car fanatic Jay Leno had quite the weekend: He spent it racing a rare Jaguar 1,000 miles across the Italian countryside.

Leno, along with Jaguar head designer Ian Callum, drove a one-of-a-kind 1951 Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar XK120 roadster as part of the 2014 Mille Miglia (Italian for 1,000 miles) classic car rally.

According to Jaguar, the special XK120 driven by Leno and Callum is the sole survivor of the three built by the company as race cars for Ecurie Ecosse (a now-defunct motor racing team from Scotland) and sold recently at auction for $965,000.

The orignal Mille Miglia, which ran 24 times between 1927 and 1957, was one of the world's premier open-road endurance sports car races before being shut down after a series of fatal crashes. The current iteration of the race, which first ran in 1977, is a classic car rally featuring only cars that raced in the original Mille Miglia.

The 2014 Mille Miglia took place over a three-day span from May 15th-18th with 435 cars from around the world participating in the rally.

Beginning in the northern Italian city of Brescia, the race took contestants south to Rome before circling back to Brescia for race finale.

Along with Leno and Callum, Jaguar's contingent also included Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons and supermodel Jodie Kidd.

Here is a video of Jay Leno and Ian Callum at the 2014 Mille Miglia:

Jaguar Land Rover is on its way to making much smarter cars, according to The Telegraph.

The company recently revealed a new self-learning technology that will enable Jaguars and Land Rovers to detect drivers and their preferences while also reminding drivers of upcoming events.

The idea is that the cars will learn from your habits, schedules, and preferences so that it can automatically and independently act.

Jaguar Land Rover has not yet confirmed when this technology will be in the hands of consumers, but it says it could happen in the next few years.

"Our new learning algorithm means information learnt about you will deliver a completely personalised driving experience and enhance driving pleasure," Dr. Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology for Jaguar Land Rover, told The Telegraph.

Here are some of the cool things that the technology will enable:

Jaguar Land Rover Buys Entire Collection Of 543 Classic Cars

$

Hull Car Collection

Most of us wish we had the money and space for a huge collection of classic and vintage cars, but if you're a major automaker such a collection is much easier to amass.

Easier still if, like Jaguar Land Rover, you buy someone else's existing collection of 543 vehicles.

Said vehicles belonged to British enthusiast James Hull, but the vast reserve of vehicles, including dozens of rare Jaguar models, is now in the hands of the automaker itself.

Prior to the sale, Hull's collection was believed to be the biggest privately-owned roster of classic British cars anywhere in the world.

The list of vehicles is enormous. Among those mentioned, the new acquisition includes everything from early Swallow Sidecars and Swallow coachbuilt Austin Sevens, pre-war SS models, seven XK 120 sports cars (one of which is a rare alloy-bodied example), C-types, D-types, an XKSS, eight E-types, thirty classic Jaguar ‘Mark’-denoted sedans, and a trifling nineteen XJS models and over twenty XJ saloons. If the latter two sound a little unspectacular, it should be noted that many had famous owners in a previous life.

Jaguar Land Rover says the new collection will be "actively used to support brand and experiential marketing", and are sure to play a part in Jaguar's increasing focus on its heritage—so expect to see appearances by some of the cars at events like the Mille Miglia or Goodwood Festival of Speed. The cars will be absorbed into Jaguar Heritage, a branch of Special Operations—the brains behind the Jaguar Project 7 sports car.

Special Operations won't just work on brand new vehicles like the Project 7, but has also been tasked with building and re-building iconic classics, like the run of six, 1963 Lightweight E-Type racers. The attention to detail and engineering is such that the new cars will be separated by time alone from the originals—delayed production models, rather than recreations.

Discretion prevents Jaguar from revealing just how much it paid for the Hull collection, but James Hull himself is confident it's now in "safe hands."

"Travelling all over the world to build the collection over the years has been a labor of love and a life’s work, so my primary motivation was not to get the maximum price but rather to secure the future of the collection in this country with the right custodian," he said.
